1. Start with straight hair and begin the style by creating a large triangle section of hair from your crown to the recession of your hairline.

2. Tease this triangle section. If your hair is super soft, add a little hairspray to the section for texture and hold.

3. Pull the teased triangle section of hair back towards your crown. Twist the hair, push it up a bit and secure with a bobby pin. Pushing up your section before securing it will give you added height.

4. Comb remaining hair back to the desired height of your ponytail. Pull tightly to keep the hair smooth.

5. Secure the ponytail with a rubber band.

6. Take a small section of hair out of your ponytail, wrap it around the rubber band and secure the ends of your section with a bobby pin underneath the band to conceal it and create a more polished look.

7. If you want a more textured feel to your pony, carefully take small sections of hair and gently tug some forward and some back.

1. Begin by putting the hair into a low ponytail, then pulling the ponytail holder down toward the ends.

2. Take your rolled up scarf and lay it across the top of the ends of the ponytail and roll it upwards, towards the head.

3. & 4. When you reach the base of the head, bring the ends of the scarf around and tie them at the front of your head, slightly off center.

5. & 6. Tuck in the sides and pull your bangs up and over the scarf and tuck them in to finish the look. Add a flower for garnish.

This is a gorgeous low maintenance hairstyle that is perfect for a summer day. Dress it up with a vintage dress and heels, or wear it casual with cutoffs and a boho top!

So what do you do to avoid chlorine green? There are so many methods out there! Here’s our favorite:Wet your hair in the shower before jumping in the pool. Make sure your shower water isn’t chlorinated. If the chlorine level in your shower water is high you should be using a water filtration system like THIS ONE.Wring out the water and apply regular conditioner to the middle + ends of your hair. You don’t need a ton- the size of a quarter will do the trick. Don’t rinse it out.Now put your hair in a low tight bun before jumping in to the pool.

Hair is just like a sponge. Whatever it soaks up first will likely sit on the inside allowing very little chlorinated water to make its way to the middle. By soaking the hair with unchlorinated water + conditioner first, you’re protecting the majority of your hair and avoiding a very harsh removal process later on. After a chlorinated swim, always wash your hair with a clarifying shampoo like THIS ONE or THIS ONE. Even when the chlorine only hits the surface, it can still greatly effect the shine of your hair because it roughs up the cuticle (outer layer). Rough cuticles = brittle hair. Condition well with a moisture rich mask after using a clarifying shampoo.

Every girl should be armed with the knowledge of how to do a quick vintage inspired Veronica Lake-esque wave in under 30 minutes. It’s one of the best ways to up the fancy factor on clean dry hair before heading out for a big night. The whole point of this tutorial is to do the exact same wave, one right next to the other and develop a pattern. So read the instructions, but more importantly follow the photos. Here we go!

Find a good deep side part. Veronica Lake always had a nice heavy side part which is what made this look so sexy. This wave is not quite as powerful when done with a middle part. Once you find your side part, clip the top half of the heavier side up as seen in photo #1.Start with curling the section right above your ear. Use either a 1? wand or a 1? barrel curling iron. 1? may seem small to you but it’s the best way to get this look in my opinion. Curling iron-wise I prefer to use this one. With this hair style, it’s important to let the hair get as hot as you can without burning it. You be the judge, as everyone’s hair is different. Tip: sometimes instead of leaving it on longer, I unravel it and do it again– “twice baked”!For steps 3, 4 and 5, you want to do the EXACT same thing right one right next to the other. Wrap curl the hair forward toward your face. You want to make sure you’re seeing a perfect curl pattern. If not, curl that piece again! Do the next piece.And the next one just the same.Now switch sides and repeat. Do one curl after the other in the exact same pattern. You’ll start to notice a sort of Shirley Temple curl happening. That’s good. Your hair should look like noodles and this is the ONLY time I will say that’s okay.Once the curls are in place, spray with a firm holding hairspray. I like to spray after so the hairspray sits on top of the hair instead of cooking it into the hair which can make it heavier. My favorite for this style is the WarrenTricomi Superhold hairspray because it has an insanely firm hold when you put it on which allows it to set better, but then after you brush it it’s completely soft again. Allow that to set for 5 minutes in a cool, dry room.After everything cools, take the fine side of your comb and start combing through the curls. As you comb around the entire head, the curl pattern will start to join together.Keep combing and combing and combing. (Apply a little more hairspray or re-curl a curl if/when necessary.)If you’ve curled all your sections the exact same way right next to each other, you’ll start to see a perfect pattern form as you’re combing.Take your 1? barrel curling iron (not a wand) and curl any straight stray ends under.Give it one last veil of hairspray and you’re set!
